Welcome to the Dark Side! Adobe integration is stunning to say the least, and with your skills at After Effects I think you’ll do some amazing work.

The school I teach at is moving from FCP exclusive to a FCP/PP/Avid even mixture, one class for each so that the students gain breadth. I’m going to use your post as well as others to help show the noobs what’s happening in the industry.

Also worth checking out is Grass Valley Edius – I think it’s actually better than FCP.

The dark horse to watch out for is Editshare Lightworks.

Myself, I went from Avid -> Vegas -> PP and I’m keeping a copy of Lightworks on to play with (It’s free!)

I’m fairly certain that the image on the television is a Monet. I also have cycling images by Dali, Jasper Johns, Murakami, Van Gogh, Hokusai, Jackson Pollock, Andrew Wyeth and Hopper. The photographers I have images from are David LaChapelle (but only the ones that won’t freak out the cleaning ladies), Garry Winogard, Philippe Halsman, Koen Demuynck, Julius Shulman, Annie Lebovitz, and Alex Prager and even a photo of a Banksy stencil.

As to the question of how much flair I prefer… enough to cover every centimeter of my suspenders, front and back!

“Reference” to what? The images on my computer are for Petersen to make my room feel more civilized. The reference (albeit loosely) for the color grade for the feature itself are the following movies. Corbin referenced the following movies:

“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (that’s a mouth full) – 2007
“Red Hill” – 1964
“Days of Heaven” – 1978

In addition, I’ve also been looking at “Never Let Me Go”, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, and “Rabbit Hole”. Again, more inspired than actual reference.
